This particular piece of art is a gorgeous limited edition giclée print of a painting by Gillian Kenny Shinnors called The Esplanade. The print depicts the view from Kilkee Beach back up to famous local landmark, the Esplanade. Once a hotel on the seafront, the building itself still remains in use and is very much associated with visits to the Beach, by all those who love and visit the town of Kilkee.

Taking her inspiration from the ‘affectionate nostalgia’ of the past; of being on holidays in the West of Ireland – old postcards, sunny days on the beach in Kilkee, the environment, the architecture of the time, the people – and all these memories being skilfully painted in oils using a colour palette that nods to the really distinct colouration of early Kodachrome photography. Her ability to depict these seemingly every-day moment’s so beautifully and with such a raw, contemporary edge, is truly remarkable.

Gillian Kenny Shinnors has handled both the original and these giclée fine art prints, with outstanding talent and love. This particular piece part of an edition of hand worked by the artist, fine art giclée prints – professionally framed. The quality is incredible.

The ORIGINAL ESPLANADE is also available in the gallery. For more click HERE.

The artist says:
“I, like many Limerick people, was fortunate spend every summer of my childhood in Kilkee Co. Clare. These vivid autobiographical memories strongly inform my work. I am interested in developing a new body of paintings, which excavate these nostalgic memories – which are bittersweet in the era of this pandemic. The notion of being on holidays is now elevated into a cloud of affectionate nostalgia through which the idealised environment of the seaside of the past is viewed. This is the sentiment I aim to explore in these paintings, by appropriating imagery from old photographs, and creating landscapes which include familiar scenes and landmarks”.
