A typical rural scene; beautiful in everything from its use of colour to its careful composition, from the immediate subject matter to the view in the distance and the emotional connection it seems to evoke. The bend in the road, oh so familiar. It could be the route home perhaps, or the view you saw as you said your goodbyes, but for whatever reason, this simple Irish bóthairín with its protective veil of leaves from the branches above, gets truly under your skin.

Quite large at 50cm x 50cm, this impressive piece by contemporary artist Padraig McCaul is perhaps one of my most recent favourites in the gallery. An amazing piece in terms of colour palette, it really draws you in.
