Oil on Canvas – unframed – 11″ (28cm) x 14″(35cm)
Living here on the West Coast of Ireland, the power of the sea does not go unnoticed. Apart from its expansive nature and unlimited strength, it also has another power – a beautiful and meditative one. Standing silently at the edge of the shoreline, watching those Atlantic waves crash and break, is one of the most special and mindful things one could do – and this artist truly appreciates this.
This original piece, entitled ‘Tonn Fiáin’, is a superb depiction in layered oils, of a wild and rolling wave, captured perfectly in that moment just between crashing up against the shoreline and rippling, and ebbing away. The stones and seaweed in the foreground give a particularly gorgeous sense of perspective to this artwork.
Tonn Fiáin (wild wave) is by an exciting West Clare artist, signing their work only as ‘D’ – this painting is part of a series of two. The second in the series (Tonnta Fiáin Bán) can be seen HERE
