Those familiar with that section of the Shannon Estuary, as seen from Shannon Airport (or the area known as Rineanna) will most certainly feel a connection to this gorgeous depiction in oils.
We are quietly (or rather loudly) obsessing over Dorothy Ledwith – and we don’t say that lightly.
Having been regularly chosen to exhibit at the RHA annual exhibition, as well as in galleries around Ireland, Dorothy’s work has a fabulously distinctive style. Her gentle, muted colour palette lends itself to gorgeous, aged aesthetic – and she creates such carefully considered compositions. This artist’s technique and handling of oils is nothing short of exquisite and exudes such quiet confidence.
To say we are fans is an understatement.
Dorothy works in oils, print and gouache. The subject matter of her work includes urban-scapes, landscapes and still life. Her immediate urban surroundings of old chimney pots, gable ends and rows of power lines feature regularly in her work. In her landscape paintings she tries to reflect the splendid countryside of counties Clare, Galway and Limerick. Dorothy has developed very much her own style of painting and a palette of muted tones
