Although we know that much of Padraig McCaul’s work has been influenced by the Mayo Coastline and Achill Island, it is also the case that depictions like this one, could be representative of anywhere in rural Ireland – and indeed McCaul’s paintings resonate with so many people on so many nostalgic levels for that very reason. Another seemingly ‘ordinary’ scene, yet painted with such love, detail, rich color and feeling that it evokes a rather ‘extraordinary’ emotive tug on your heartstrings.
