Contemporary artist Delaney Davis brings us this rather poignant moment from near where she grew up in Nevada. By coincidence, approaching Delaney’s last days of living in the US, there happened to be a series of large wildfires raging in the outskirts of Reno.

This particular scene, looking down her street, shows the somewhat eerie colour that had overtaken the skies there as a result of the heat and the smoke in the distance; and the resulting colours it cast on the vehicles and street below.

Drawn to architecture and objects, and painting streetscapes, there is such a fascinatingly honest and authentic feel to Delaney’s work. She likes to choose locations and subjects that are generally overlooked by most of us going through our busy days. She sees beauty in the, perhaps, less obvious features, in the darkness, in the shadows sometimes, and even the industrial, from roadsides, to overhead wires to alleyways. Her work is wonderfully contemporary and fantastically collectable.
