Another captivating piece by the West Clare artist, who is signing their work as ‘D’. Apart from being so fabulously talented, this artist also has a keen sense of observation; observing the places and things in nature which inspire – and all the small, intricate details – the things we might not even notice, that make these places just that little bit more extraordinary.
This particular painting – Machnaimh Oíche (Nightime Reflections) – Cappa, Kilrush – is something truly special. The artist has provided us with some personal insights into their reasons behind this.
“I love painting the water. It differs every second of every day; switching colours in front of your very eyes, from vivid blues to greens and deep greys. I also love it at night; the reflections, the blackness, what lies beneath it and the silver threads of light here and there. In this painting, its almost night time. The street lights are reflecting strongly in the water. I am standing under a street lamp myself, which is why the rocks in the foreground have a brighter colour. The houses in Cappa are enveloped in a warm pink glow from being also caught under streetlights. So atmospheric, this is a favourite spot of mine” – D
