Ireland’s greatest river, the River Shannon, opens out to the Atlantic Ocean at Carrigaholt, here on Loop Head. This stretch of water is home to Europe’s largest group of bottlenose dolphins and a local boat trip (Dolphinwatch Carrigaholt) go out to see them daily in the summer months.  With so many of these beautiful, gentle creatures around us (approx 200 in the immediate vicinity) it is no wonder that our fascination with them continues to grow.
Sculptor Adil Vezir has captured their elegance and beauty so perfectly in this, his latest bronze sculpture of dolphins; sculpted here in West Clare and indeed cast here in our own bronze foundries on Loop Head.  A mama and a baby dolphin,  swimming playfully together, beautifully sculpted to show their graceful movement and perfect formation. The patina is beautifully lifelike, layered and coloured by Adil himself, to truly reflect these magnificent mammals.
