Once a much more familiar sight across the West of Ireland, the rusty, barn-yard red roof that we know so well as part of the rural vernacular, now a trickier thing to try to recreate in real life without being specifically sourced, so when we see the genuine aged roof being preserved on little stone outhouses, it can be a truly beautiful sight; indeed a rather nostalgic one for many. McCaul captures this in the most delicate, simple way – it being the entire subject matter of this painting – yet incredibly striking, once again owing to his eye for colour. “A Coast View” sums this up, with the front of this little building facing the beautiful coast beyond it.
A magnificent original oil painting.
