In the artist’s own words:
“This bronze sculpture was inspired by St. Brigid and the symbols associated with her. She was a warrior with huge respect for nature and biodiversity. Holy wells with cures and healing powers are associated with St. Brigid; in pagan times these were considered passages to the other world. There are many stories about miracles she was to have performed with her cloak as well as feeding animals and the poor. As a child Brigid kept bees and seemingly the bees were able to travel between the two worlds and pollinate flowers in this world. By all accounts Brigid the Goddess or Saint was a very strong Irish woman who overcame many trials just like many of us Irish women. Her birthday is on 1st of February and marks the beginning of spring or Imbolc the pagan spring festival. Many symbols associated with her are the cross made of rushes, an eternal flame, concentric circles, bees, the serpent and various symbols representing spring, renewal, fertility are portrayed in this bronze sculpture”
