The wonderful sea stack, known locally as Sampson’s Island or Diamuid and Grainne’s Rock, sits powerfully to the left of the headland in this painting at Loop Head, creating a vast void between it and the cliff.  Beautiful, vivid palettes and fearless strokes are the signature style of contemporary artist David Coyne.
