Diana Marshall’s oil paintings are so beautifully true to life – and her subjects are always wonderfully chosen. Their utter simplicity coupled with her true and intricate detailing are almost a kind of contradiction to be honest. Her compositions all seem to have a calming effect and tend to work wonderfully in contemporary kitchen spaces, arty dining rooms or public spaces such as high end restaurants.
In ‘Mix it Up’, Marshall’s subject matter is an American style whisk; something that many homes will recognise as having been a very busy kitchen utensil over the years; particularly with the home bakers. Her beautiful depiction of the machine itself, from the bright yellow body to the stainless steel whisk, painted against a contrasting dark canvas, somehow feels altogether wonderfully glamorous. The composition shows the machine disappearing off towards the bottom of the canvas – almost suggesting the movement of the busy whisk and creating a vibrant and contemporary feeling to this piece of art which would look amazing in any modern home.
Diana Marshall has a large following for her still life paintings – and her work is exhibited across Ireland and the UK – a very collectable artist indeed. Her competency in fine detailing jumps out at you from every aspect of the canvas.
She is a stunningly collectable artist whose work will quite certainly appreciate in value over time.
