The confident and wonderfully abstract nature of Paul McMahons work is truly mesmerising. Rather like the flames of an open fire, you find you can’t take your eyes away – and the longer you look, the more and more elements that appear. Ultimately, you realise that this piece of art becomes the work that just keeps on giving.
Entitled ‘Searching’- this piece of art – oil on canvas – is of a mythical place, a feeling or space, deep in the woods, searching for some meaning; turning to nature and finding that the ‘tree of life’ was rather a more precarious climb than the artist ever thought. The colors and patterns used, combine together to provide an overall atmosphere; a feeling perhaps. The faces that appear as you stare at this painting, bring to mind various stages in our own life – and that of those around us – and maybe even the lives of those gone past.
